Breath Testing for SIBO

New Breath Testing Program For SIBO

Commonwealth Medical Laboratories is pleased to announce the addition of breath testing to identify SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) as well as fructose and lactose intolerance. The test measures methane and hydrogen in a patient’s exhaled breath sample. The procedure is non-invasive, highly accurate, and FDA approved SIBO analyzer.

Digestive disorders can be difficult to pinpoint. Many times, patients undergo colonoscopy, biopsy, and other invasive procedures. This test is very simple. The patient will drink a substrate included in the kit (after overnight fasting). Then over the course of several hours, the patient will exhale into a small collection device. Several samples are collected and then sent to the laboratory for analysis. That’s it! This testing can be done in the patient’s home, or the physician’s office.

Results from the test will assist the physician in diagnosing SIBO and intolerances allowing for treatment formulation. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS, is one of the most prevalent chronic medical problems on earth. SIBO is a leading cause of IBS. Patient friendly and affordable, this testing is covered by most insurance carriers and Medicare.
