ALLERGY FACTS

 ALLERGY FACTS

Researchers have shown that 25% of allergy patients cannot smell very well. In fact, measurable losses of smell were found in nearly one-quarter of hay fever sufferers. Structural changes have also been identified in cells of the mucous membrane in patients with nasal allergies. This finding raised the possibility that allergies might also damage mucous membranes and smell receptors, with a chance of causing some loss of smell.
Ear infections (0titis media) have been found to be the most common cause of hearing loss in children. It has also been found that a significant portion of all cases of otitis media are associated with allergy. That could be as high as 35% - 40%.
Recent studies have shown that allergic patients tend to get more serious colds and earlier cold symptoms compared with allergy-free individuals.
